The Losar Festival in 2025 takes place on February 28th. As the most important traditional celebration for the Tibetan people, it is a time spent with family and friends. The festival also includes significant Buddhist activities, such as pilgrimages around Jokhang Temple and prayers in monasteries. However, due to Tibet's unique circumstances, the region is generally closed to foreigners from the end of February to the middle of March, meaning that traveling to Tibet during the Losar Festival is not possible.

Tibetan festivals are plentiful from June to September, making it a great time to visit. For instance, the Saga Dawa Festival begins on June 11th, 2025, while the Shoton Festival falls on August 23rd, 2025. Additionally, Horse Racing Festivals are held in various regions, such as Gyantse and Naqu, during July and August. If you're eager to immerse yourself in Tibetan culture and experience these festivals firsthand, visiting during this period is ideal. However, be aware that July and August are peak tourist months in Tibet, so travel costs tend to be higher during this time.
