If you are going to Ngari to make a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar or pass through the Ngari area, even if not for religious purposes, you need to turn to two organizations. The process for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is largely the same for Indian citizens and NRIs. The main difference is where the original passport is submitted for final approval.

For Indian Citizens:

1. Confirm your itinerary and register with an authorized travel agency.
2. Send a scanned copy of your passport at least 45 days before departure for Tibet-side permit processing.
3. Submit your original passport to the agency’s Delhi office about 15 days before the yatra.
4. Collect your passport from Delhi or have it couriered to you.
5. Carry your passport and report to the meeting point to begin your yatra.

For NRIs:

1. Register and confirm your itinerary with an authorized travel agency.
2. Send a scanned copy of your passport at least 45 days before departure.
3. Submit your original passport to the agency’s Kathmandu office 3 working days before the yatra.
4. Collect your passport in Kathmandu once approvals are complete.
5. Carry your passport and proceed to the meeting point to start your journey.

Not only Indians but all tourists holding passports other than Chinese passports are not allowed to travel independently in Tibet and can only choose to travel in groups.

Tibet is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and has a plateau climate with large temperature differences between day and night. During the daytime, the temperature is relatively high and you will need to take off your jacket. At night, the temperature is low, you'd better put on clothes to keep warm. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare a warm jacket (down jacket or cotton jacket).

Clothing: thermal underwear, quick-drying underwear, thermal down jacket, trousers, etc.

No. Currently in Tibet, it is not feasible to exchange Indian rupees into RMB. It is recommended that you exchange your Indian Rupee for USD cash beforehand and bring USD to Tibet for tourism. If you bring a bank card, you can also withdraw RMB directly from the ATM.

In Tibet, there are Tibetan English-speaking guides, as well as other minority language guides, but there are currently no Hindi-speaking guides.
