In this itinerary, you can explore different cultures and natures in both Nepal and Tibet. By an overland drive from Kathmandu to Tibet via Gyirong port, you will enjoy breathtaking landscapes along the road. Visits to Mt. Everest, Karola Glacier, and Yamdroktso Lake will show you the natural beauty of Tibet, while Tashilumpo Monastery, Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street will offer you a close encounter with mysterious Tibetan culture.

Day 1 Kathmandu to Gyirong, 210km

Our local operator will pick up from your hotel in Kathmandu and get together around 6:00am, and then we will drive from Kathmandu to Rashuwaghadi (the border between China-Nepal), en-route, you’ll enjoy the marvelous scenery along the way, the rush green mountains, valleys, rivers, etc. After immigration formalities at Gyirong port, you will meet our Tibetan tour guide and driver, then continue drive to Gyirong town.

Day 2 Gyirong to Tingri, 300km

Drive along the Highway to Tingri where you can get wonderful view of Himalayan ranges, specially Mt. Shisha Pangma and before Old Tingri 40km from where you can get lovely view of highest peaks on the world, such as Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Everest(8848m), Mt. Qowowuyag (8201m), Mt. Makalu (8463m).

Day 3 Tingri to Shigatse, 240km, Approx. 9hrs

Drive from Tingri to Shigatse today, which takes abt 7hrs. Please feel free to ask your driver to stop at any time if you want to take a photo of the fatastic view along the way

Day 4 Shigatse - Gyantse - Lhasa, 375km

Drive Shigatse to Lhasa via Gyantse by Southern Friendship Hwy. You will pass by the fertile Nyangchu Valley, a wide agricultural plain where colourfully decorated yaks and horses are used by Tibetan farmers to till the land, and Khamba-la Pass (4794m).

Day 5 Lhasa sightseeing

In the morning our guide will meet you at the hotel and first take you to visit famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, it was first built by 33rd King Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and rebuilt it later in 17th century by 5th Dalai Lama, now it is a museum and world heritage site.

In the afternoon, we will go to visit Jokhang Temple in the center of the old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is one of the most sacred temples in all over Tibet and it is always bustling with earnest local pilgrims since from early days. After that you will take a walk around the Barkhor street which is the one of the most devotional circuit as well as crowded central market of Lhasa, Barkhor Street is located in the old area of Lhasa City Tibet, it is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the locals are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, it is also a must-see place for visitors.

As the winter palace of the Dalai Lama, Potala Palace is an important religious landmark of Tibet.
In front of the Jokhang Temple, you can see many pilgrims are worshipping and performing their devotions.
Day 6 Lhasa Suburb

Today’s first attraction is to visit Drepung Monastery which is the world's largest monastery that housed for more than 10,000 monks; it was the resident of the Dalai Lama. After lunch, you will continue to visit the Sera Monastery which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most attractive thing of Sera Monastery is Buddhist Scriptures debating held in the courtyard between 15:00 - 17:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Drepung Monastery has white constructions and looks like a heap of rice in the distance. Its name, “Drepung”, means “Collecting Rice” in Tibetan.

Your Tibet tour ends today. After breakfasts, you will be free for the morning. Our staff will collect you at your hotel to transfer to Lhasa Airport/Railway Station.

* While Gratuities for guide and driver is NOT mandatory, it is expected. Based on their service, you can tip them on the last day of the tour. Each of you is suggested to tip them 5-10 USD/day in total;

* All the commission and tax charged by PayPal, Bank, and government when making payment. (e.g. PayPal --- 4.2%. Wire transfer --- 7%);

* Personal expenses;

*On day 01, we will start about 6:00 am since the road condition is poor and it takes us about 8-9hours to reach the border.

*Considering the increasing high altitude from 1370m of Kathmandu to 5200m of the EBC, to avoid the high altitude sickness, we will arrange the sightseeing of Mt. Everest on the way from Gyirong to Tingri, instead of driving to Everest Base Camp.

*Tibet Tourism Bureau Permit (TTB) usually takes about 12-working-day to apply. If you couldn't provide the required docs & info on time, an extra abt USD 50~80/permit will be charged;

*We reserve the right to change the itinerary order and attractions in Lhasa;

*If you prefer to book your own hotels over those included in our group tour, please meet the rest of the group at their daily hotel on time. We don't include the transfers to your own hotels;

*We need to pick up and drop off all members of the group on first & last day from Lhasa Airport/Railway, please book the flight or train as your travel advisor's suggestion;

*Due to the special nature of Tibet travel, any unforeseeable and unavoidable objective circumstances, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, riot, civil commotion, strikes, public health emergencies, government action, major traffic jams, delay or cancellation of flight/train, attractions temporarily closed. etc., resulting in a change of itinerary, the increased cost will be paid by travellers; if any attraction visits have to be cancelled due to the same reasons above, GTT won't be held responsible for a refund except certain attraction entrance fee which will be solely decided by GTT.

*Single Supplement: our quote is based on twin rooms. For single travellers, single supplement is required at the time of booking. If later we manage to match you with another traveller to share the twin rooms, the single supplement will be refunded.

* From Nepal to Tibet, you are required to apply for China Group Visa at China embassy in Nepal with our assistance even if you have had China Visa already. After you book your Tibet tour with us, we will send an official invitation letter for you to our partner in Kathmandu. After your arrival in Kathmandu, our Nepali partner will meet you for your original passport. The Chinese embassy in Kathmandu only accepts the visa applications from 10:00~12:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Moreover, they’ll not work on weekends or holidays. If you arrive in Kathmandu on 15th. July (Sunday), then our Nepali partner will apply for the China Group Visa on 16th. (Monday). You could get it on 18th. afternoon (Wednesday). So, it’s better to start this tour on 19th. Is this time okay for you?
