Travel Tips: There are three main options for travelers to reach Tibet. The first is to fly directly to Tibet from cities like Kunming, Lijiang, or Shangri-La. The second option involves flying to Xining from Yunnan, followed by a scenic train journey from Xining to Lhasa. The third option is an overland trip from Shangri-La to Lhasa.

How to get to Tibet from Yunnan?
You can take a direct flight from Kunming, Lijiang, and Shangri-La in Yunnan to Lhasa in Tibet. Currently, there is no train from Yunnan to Tibet. If you want to experience the world's highest railway - Qinghai Tibet Railway, you can fly to Xining and then take the train to Lhasa.
How to Get Tibet Travel Permit in Yunnan?
You cannot apply for the Tibet Travel Permit on your own in Yunnan—it must be arranged through a licensed Tibet travel agency. If you book with us, we will handle the entire application process for you.
The permit usually takes 7–17 working days to process, plus around 3 days for delivery from Lhasa to your hotel in Yunnan. Therefore, after booking your tour, please send us a scanned copy of your passport and Chinese visa at least 20 days before departure.

What’s the airfare from Yunnan to Tibet?

How far is the airport from the city?
When you fly from Yunnan to Tibet, you will land at Lhasa Gonggar International Airport (LXA). It is located 68 kilometers southwest of Lhasa. It is less than a 1-hour drive on an expressway from the airport to Lhasa downtown.
