For travelers from Singapore, a journey to Mount Kailash is both a long-haul adventure and a deep spiritual quest. Situated in the remote Ngari Prefecture of Tibet, Mount Kailash rises to 6,656 meters (21,837 feet) and is revered by Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and the indigenous Bon religion. Nearby, the sacred Lake Manasarovar—believed in Hindu tradition to have been created by Brahma—offers crystal-clear waters said to purify the body and mind. Whether your goal is to complete the sacred Parikrama, bathe in Manasarovar’s holy waters, or simply stand in awe before snow-capped peaks, planning your trip well in advance from Singapore will ensure you can make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In Tibetan Buddhism, Mount Kailash is regarded as the abode of Chakrasamvara. Buddhists believe that completing one kora (circumambulation) can cleanse the sins of a lifetime, while completing 108 koras may lead to enlightenment in this lifetime. Hindus view the mountain as the dwelling of Lord Shiva, believing that a pilgrimage here can purify karma and lead to salvation.
This guide outlines travel routes, budgeting tips, visa procedures, and high-altitude preparation, helping you plan your Mount Kailash journey from Singapore with confidence.

First, you'll fly directly from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). The flight typically takes around 5 hours. Once in Kathmandu, you have two primary options for continuing your journey to Mount Kailash: by land or by air.
By Land (Recommended for Scenery)
From Kathmandu, you will travel overland, crossing the border into Tibet at the Gyirong/Zhangmu Port. Drive along the Friendship Highway to Darchen (the base camp for Mount Kailash), typically taking 2 to 3 days. This scenic route offers a chance to witness the spectacular beauty of the Himalayas, magnificent Buddhist monasteries, and sacred mountains and lakes.
Note: Road conditions on the Nepalese side are poor, both toward Gyirong and Zhangmu, with numerous potholes and muddy sections. During the monsoon season, there is also a risk of landslides and mudslides.
By Air
From Kathmandu, you can take a flight to Lhasa in 2 hours, then go overland or fly to Nagri Gunsa Airport (NGQ), which is around 200km away from Darchen. This route significantly reduces travel time, but it is much more expensive.
