Frequently asked questions

What’s the best Tibet Trekking time?

Generally speaking, travelers can have a Tibet trekking tour from April to October, which is the peak tourist season. Some hikers and trekkers hold the opinion that they should avoid the rainy season from July to August. But in fact, rain in Tibet does not affect a lot. Due to the high grand Himalaya mountains, heavy rain rarely falls. Besides that, even it rains, it always rains at night. You can see the stunning sunrise in the next morning. From April to October, the weather is warm and comfortable. With the mild breeze, blooming flowers, lush forests, blue sky, warm sunlight, your trekking in Tibet must be unforgettable and wonderful. Winter is not the right time for trekkers because of the heavy snows and low temperature. Partial attractions in remote Tibetan areas will be closed and the roads will be blocked by the heavy snows.

In accordance with the Chinese law, a solo foreign traveler is not allowed to travel to Tibet owing to the unique political background in Tibet, let alone trekking in Tibet. Foreigners can only get to Tibet with the help of a local Tibet Travel Agency for your trekking route, tour guide, vehicles, accommodation, etc. according to your preference.

As is known to the world, the reason why Tibet is such a hot tourist destination is that the natural scenery in Tibet is attractive and charming. The best way for travelers who want to explore the natural beauty in the boundless Tibetan plateau is to plan a trekking tour in Tibet, which is also a great way to get close to nature. By trekking, you can have a chance to enjoy the crystal-like lakes, splendid Tibetan temples and monasteries, white snow-capped mountains, mysterious Tibetan Buddhism, running rays and sheep on the boundless grassland, and so on.

High altitude sickness is the biggest concern for most travelers. Some trekking routes can reach over than five thousand meters. Therefore prepare some medicine before your tour is the best choice. Nuodikang Capsules, Nifedipine, and Suoluomabao Capsules (known as Hongjingtian Capsules in Chinese) are most common drugs for high altitude.  Suoluomabao Capsules can be taken three days prior your departure for prevention.  During your trekking, if you feel uncomfortable, you should tell your tour guide immediately, and descend the height soon. If the symptom of the high altitude sickness doesn't get relieved, you will be sent to the local hospital as soon as possible.

There are two main ways for trekkers and hikers to get to Tibet. One way is to get to Tibet from the mainland China, and the other way is to get to Tibet from Nepal. The temperature from October to March is low, trekkers should take some warm and thick clothes. The temperature from April to September is higher than other months, so you can bring some thin and light clothes  Concerning the big temperature difference between the day and night, you are suggested taking some sweaters and jackets as well. What’s more, the following items are also recommended:  first-aid packets, sports shoes, tissues, drinks, dry food, masks, sleeping bags, waterproof, some skin-care product, such as sunhat, sun cream, sunglasses, lipstick, etc.
