Tips: You can take domestic flights from major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Changsha, etc. to get to Zhangjiajie. Also you can take normal train from Changsha (4.5hrs), Yichang (5hrs), Tongren (7hrs), etc., to Zhangjiajie.
After breakfast at your hotel, you will head to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to start your adventure today. Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain is the essence of the national park. You will take the Bailong Elevator, made of transparent glass, which ascends 326 meters in just 1 minute and 32 seconds to reach Yangjiajie. You will first pass Hallelujah Mountain, also known as the pillar of the universe, which is the inspiration for the floating mountain in "Avatar". From there, you will proceed to the Platform of Forgetfulness to admire nearly peak views before walking across the First Bridge Under Heaven.
Take a sightseeing bus from Yuanjiajie to Tianzi Mountain. Standing on the best viewing platform - Tianzi Pavilion, you can enjoy the unique peak forest up close, very spectacular. When you finish your trip to Tianzi Mountain, take the cable car down the mountain.
Stay overnight in Wulingyuan
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon has a unique and spectacular natural landscape. The canyon is deep and narrow, flanked by steep cliffs, mysterious caves and lush forests. There is the longest and tallest glass bridge in the world, standing 300 meters high. For the adventurous, crossing the glass bridge is an unforgettable experience. There are also many streams and waterfalls in the canyon, and the landscape of the first line of sky is particularly shocking.
Baofeng Lake is hailed as a “classic among the world’s lakes.” Its crystal-clear waters reflect like a mirror, surrounded by the unique sandstone peak formations of Wulingyuan. You can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere by taking a ride on a wooden boat and experiencing local ethnic entertainment as traditional songs are performed.
Stay overnight in Wulingyuan
After breakfast, you will drive for 40 minutes, then take the world’s longest cableway (7,445 meters) for about 30 minutes, bringing you directly from the city to the summit of Tianmen Mountain. At the top, start with the thrilling glass skywalk. Then, follow the western route to explore the Guigu Cliff Path, which clings tightly to the cliffside—an experience that feels like walking in the clouds. Tianmen Cave, literally meaning "Heaven's Gate," is a 30-meter-high natural arch that resembles a doorway carved into the mountain. You can climb the steep 999 steps to reach the cave entrance, famously known as the “Stairway to Heaven.”
After the mountain, you will get to the railway station and take a high-speed train to Fenghuang Ancient Town. In the evening, the banks of the Tuo River light up with dazzling brilliance. Sitting in a bar to enjoy the dust is a nice idea.
Stay overnight in Fenghuang
In the morning, your guide will take you to explore Fenghuang Ancient Town, a place with over 300 years of history and often praised as the most beautiful town in China. You’ll start with a boat ride along the Tuojiang River, enjoying views of stilted houses and the town’s charming scenery. Then, you’ll visit Fenghuang Bridge, a landmark of the town, and the East Gate Tower, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the town. At midday, you can take a leisurely stroll along the stone-paved alleys, exploring hidden lanes filled with historical charm, ethnic handicraft shops, and cozy cafés. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the former residence of Shen Congwen, the famous author of Border Town, a novel that vividly depicts rural life in China before the communist revolution.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll take a high-speed train back to Zhangjiajie.
Stay overnight in Lhasa
In the morning, your guide will send you to the airport to take a flight to Lhasa.
Upon arrival, your Tibetan tour guide and driver will greet you at the airport. After being transferred to the hotel, you will be free to wander around the city on your own, but try not to overtax yourself for the rest of the day. The first day's well-rest is crucial to acclimate to the high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not have a shower if you can help it.
Stay overnight in Lhasa
After breakfast in the hotel, you will visit Drepung Monastery which was the world's largest monastery that ever housed over 10,000 monks, also the highest-ranking monastery in the Gelug Sect. Drepung means Rice Heaps in the Tibetan language and the whole monastery does look like rice heaps in the distance.
After that, we will go to visit Norbulingka, which is a typical Tibetan-style royal garden, the summer resort of the Dalai Lama. There are a lot of towering trees, exotic flowers and plants in the garden, as well as many collections of cultural relics, Buddha statues, pagodas, thangkas, murals, etc. They are all very precious treasures.
Stay overnight in Lhasa
In the morning, your guide will meet you at the hotel and first take you to visit the famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. It was first built by the 33rd King - Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and rebuilt later by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. Now it's a museum and world heritage site.
In the afternoon, you will go to visit Jokhang Temple in the center of the Lhasa old town. Jokhang Temple is the most sacred temple in Tibet and it is always bustling with earnest local pilgrims since the early days. After that, you will take a walk around the Barkhor Street - one of the most devotional circuits as well as a crowded central market of Lhasa. Barkhor Street is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the locals are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, it‘s also a must-see place for visitors.
