Day 1 Arrival in Lhasa (3680m)

This is the first day that you enter Tibet. Your guide will greet you at the airport or railway station and transfer you to the lovely hotel. It usually takes around 1.5 hours to drive from Lhasa Airport to downtown Lhasa and takes about 20mins from Lhasa Railway Station. Tourists could have a look at Yarlung Tsangpo River, the largest and longest river in Tibet on their way to the hotel. After check-in, you can have a good rest first. And if you feel like to go out, you can wander around the city. But just remember that don't take too much stuff, try to go with a light pack. Meanwhile, drink some more water. It’s really useful to get acclimatized to the high altitude.

Stay overnight in Lhasa

Day 2 Lhasa City

As the capital city, Lhasa is the political, economic, cultural, communication and tourism center of Tibet with a history over 1300 years.

The Potala Palace is the world's highest palace, castle and monastery.
In front of the Jokhang Temple, you can see many pilgrims are worshipping and performing their devotions.
Day 3 Lhasa Suburb

Today you will visit attractions in Lhasa suburb. You will stay long hour on sightseeing under the fierce sun of Tibet, do arm yourself with sunglasses/ hat/ sunscreen, etc.

Drepung Monastery is one of the three greatest Gelug university gompas in Tibet.
Sera Monastery has a rich collection of cultural relics
Day 4 Lhasa - Dark Yerpa - Ganden - Lhasa

A day's excursion outside of Lhasa city takes you to Ganden Monastery which is abt 50km northeast of Lhasa. En route, we will also visit the less-known-by-tourists Dark Yerpa hermitage, abt 16km northeast of Lhasa.

Drak Yerpa was built by Songtsan Gampo, the first emperor of a united Tibet, in the 7th century for his wife.
97 generations of Khripas ruled the monastery since Zongkapa’s ruling, and Garden Monastery housed 5,000 monks at its peak.
Day 5 Lhasa - Namtso - Lhasa

On the way to Namtso, you will have a far view of Nyenchen Thanglha Snow Mountain. Enjoy the view of the vast grassland and spectacular natural scenery. You’ll arrive at Namtso after pass Nagela Pass(5150m).

It's the third largest saltwater lake in China.
The mineral content of the hot springs is high. Soaking can treat a variety of diseases.
Day 6 Lhasa - Draksumtso - Nyingtri

A hard ride today from Lhasa to Nyingtri for abt 8hrs or so, en route, visit the beautiful Draksumtso Lake.

Draksum-tso Lake is in jade green and surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
The best time to visit Draksum-tso Lake in Autumn, during which you can see the colorful forests around the lake.
Day 7 Nyingtri - Lulang - Nyingtri

LuLang means “Loong King Valley” in Tibetan language, or “a place that will make you forget your home”. It is located abt 80km from Nyingtri.

Lulang forest is in Nyingchi and shows your typical alpine scenery.
Known as a fairyland where gods live in with scenic beauties, Lulang Forest has special breathtaking scenery in every season
Day 8 Nyingtri - Tsedang

Drive from Nyingtri to Tsetang via Nang Xian along Yarlung Tsangpo for abt 8hrs or so.

Day 9 Tsetang - Trandruk - Yumbulakang - Tsetang

Visit the major sights of Yarlung Valley in Tsetang today, of which is consider the cradle of Tibetan civilization. It was from Yarlung that the early Tibetan kings unified Tibet in the 7th century.

Trandruk Monastery
Yumbu means doe, lagang means holy palace.
Day 10 Tsetang - Gyantse - Shigatse

Tour to to Shigatse via Gyantse, en route you will pass by Khamba-la (4794m), Yamdrotso Lake (4441m) and Karola Glacier (5050m).

Yamdroktso Lake is a freshwater lake in Tibet
The white glacier looks spectacular for visitors passing by.
Day 11 Shigatse - Tingri - Rongphu - EBC

Tibet has a serious rule about speed-limit. Though from Shigatse to Everest region is only abt 350km or so, the no-more-than-40km/hr regulation, and the many road checks dotted on the way, really slow us down. So be prepared to spend around 10~12hrs on the road including meal time. The upside is the view along the way is superb. Get your camera ready. Also, prepare some snacks with you to bring along.

If it’s summertime (usually May~Oct), we will carry on the last few kilometers to Everest Tent Camp to stay the night; if winter time (usually Nov~Apr), we will stay at Rongbuk Monastery’s guesthouse. Both places have but dorm bed lodging available. Both places you can see the glorious Everest sunset if the weather is good.

Tashilhunpo Monaster was founded by the First Dailai Lama in 1447
Rongbuk Monastery is a monastery of Nyingmapa. It is founded by Ngawang Tenzin Norbu in 1902, distinctively housing both monks and nuns.
Day 12 EBC – Gyirong Border 370km, approx. 8hrs
You can get up early and enjoy the sunrise of Everest Peak at lodging area if the weather is good. And then, we can drive you to the Everest Base Camp. After sightseeing, we will drive to Gyirong, the border which connects Tibet & Nepal. On the way, tourists can enjoy breathtaking vista of Mt. Shishapangma and the Pekutso Lake. After passing the Ghungtang Lhamo(5236M), we will arrive in Gyirong in late afternoon.
It is nice to watch the sunrise and the sunset at EBC. And if you couldn’t fall asleep at night, it is worthy to enjoy a spectacular starry sky on a clear night.
Since there is a very simple post office at EBC, you can send postcards from this highest place to your families, your friends, and even to yourself.
Day 13 Gyirong - Kathmandu

Drive to Gyirong Port in early morning. You are required to walk on your own to cross the border bridge which is about 50m long. Your Nepali driver will greet you at the other side of the bridge and transfer you to Kathmandu.

Good evening, I was in touch with you in 2016, asking for information about your treks into the mountains. We would like to travel between 1 and 15 May 2019. What might you have that may interest us between those dates please (4 to 9-day treks are probably going to interest us the most)? We are very open minded about the trip and game for anything interesting so your suggestions are most welcome. Thank you very much in advance. I look forward to hearing from you. In your inquiry, you mentioned that you would like to visit Tibet in May. And you are interested in a trekking tour. Firstly, may I know how many people of you? Because for travelers less than five, we usually suggest them join our small group tours to keep the cost down. But we only have a 15-day Everest and Kailash group tour involved with 3-day trekking. Please check the following itinerary and let me know if you like it or not.

Hello, we're planning a trip Xining - to Lhasa by train - your Lhasa to Kathmandu tour. We're not sure about how to go on from there. We might travel to India or HongKong from Kathmandu. As far as I have understood the way to proceed is to travel to Xining and take the train from there. Would you provide the Tibet Travel Permit? Oh, by the way, we are travelling as a pair. Kind regards Gabriele Hofmann
