After transferred to hotel, the rest of the day you will be free to wander around the city on your own but try not to overtax yourself. The first day's well-rest is crucial to acclimatize high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not to shower if you can help it.

Day 2 Lhasa City

As the capital city, Lhasa is the political, economic, cultural, communication and tourism center of Tibet with a history over 1300 years.

The original Potala Palace was built by the King Songtsan Gampo for his bride in 637 AD, and it was rebuilt by the fifth Dalai Lama.
The life-sized statue of the Jowo Shayamuni of age 12 can be seen in Jokhang Temple, it is recognized as the holiest object in Tibet.
Day 3 Lhasa Suburb

Today you will visit attractions in Lhasa suburb. You will stay long hour on sightseeing under the fierce sun of Tibet, do arm yourself with sunglasses/ hat/ sunscreen, etc.

Drepung Monastery is also a Buddhist education base. It is the best place to learn and impart the Buddhism.
Sera Monassrey is located at the foot of Tatipu Hill in the northern suburb of Lhasa City
Day 4 Lhasa - Dark Yerpa - Ganden - Lhasa

A day's excursion outside of Lhasa city takes you to Ganden Monastery which is abt 50km northeast of Lhasa. En route, we will also visit the less-known-by-tourists Dark Yerpa hermitage, abt 16km northeast of Lhasa.

Drak Yerpa was built by Songtsan Gampo, the first emperor of a united Tibet, in the 7th century for his wife.
97 generations of Khripas ruled the monastery since Zongkapa’s ruling, and Garden Monastery housed 5,000 monks at its peak.
Day 5 Lhasa - Namtso - Lhasa

Known as a fairyland where gods live in with scenic beauties, Lulang Forest has special breathtaking scenery in every season

Day 10 Tsetang - Gyantse - Shigatse

Tour to to Shigatse via Gyantse, en route you will pass by Khamba-la (4794m), Yamdrotso Lake (4441m) and Karola Glacier (5050m).

Sacred Lake Yamdrok glows with various colors, like turquoise, when the sun is shining
The white glacier is spectacular from the highway
Day 11 Shigatse - Tingri - Rongphu - EBC

Tibet has a serious rule about speed-limit. Though from Shigatse to Everest region is only abt 350km or so, the no-more-than-40km/hr regulation, and the many road checks dotted on the way, really slow us down. So be prepared to spend around 10~12hrs on the road including meal time. The upside is the view along the way is superb. Get your camera ready. Also, prepare some snacks with you to bring along.

If it’s summertime (usually May~Oct), we will carry on the last few kilometers to Everest Tent Camp to stay the night; if winter time (usually Nov~Apr), we will stay at Rongbuk Monastery’s guesthouse. Both places have but dorm bed lodging available. Both places you can see the glorious Everest sunset if the weather is good.

Tashilhunpo Monaster was founded by the First Dailai Lama in 1447
Rongbuk Monastery has guesthouse for the tourists. There are lots of tents nearby as well. Tourists need to be careful on the belongings.
Day 12 EBC - Zhangmu

We will drive to Zhangmu or Kyirong, the border ports which connect Tibet & Nepal. Both of which are currently closed to foreign tourists since the Nepal earthquake in Apr 2015.

It is nice to watch the sunrise and the sunset at EBC. And if you couldn’t fall asleep at night, it is worthy to enjoy a spectacular starry sky on a clear night.
The best time to travel to Mt. Everest would be May, June, Sep and early Oct. EBC is relatively less windy and clear.
Day 13 Zhangmu - Kodari - Kathmandu

Drive to Zhangmu Port in early morning. You are required to walk on your own to cross the border bridge which is abt 50m long. See Nepali driver at Kodari. Transfer to hotel in Kathmandu.

Good evening, I was in touch with you in 2016, asking for information about your treks into the mountains. We would like to travel between 1 and 15 May 2019. What might you have that may interest us between those dates please (4 to 9-day treks are probably going to interest us the most)? We are very open minded about the trip and game for anything interesting so your suggestions are most welcome. Thank you very much in advance. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, Catherine. Catherine Rylance +33 6 63 81 45 91

In your inquiry, you mentioned that you would like to visit Tibet in May. And you are interested in a trekking tour. Firstly, may I know how many people of you? Because for travelers less than five, we usually suggest them join our small group tours to keep the cost down. But we only have a 15-day Everest and Kailash group tour involved with 3-day trekking. Please check the following itinerary and let me know if you like it or not.

Hello, we're planning a trip Xining - to Lhasa by train - your Lhasa to Kathmandu tour. We're not sure about how to go on from there. We might travel to India or HongKong from Kathmandu. As far as I have understood the way to proceed is to travel to Xining and take the train from there. Would you provide the Tibet Travel Permit? Oh, by the way, we are travelling as a pair. Kind regards Gabriele Hofmann

In your inquiry, you mentioned that there are two of you would like to visit Tibet from Xining. Yes, we could apply for the Tibet Travel Permit for you after you book a tour with us. For travelers less than five, we usually suggest them join our small group tours to keep the cost down. I think you might be interested in our 7-day Lhasa Mt. Everest Kathmandu Overland Group Tour.

Hi, I am interested in this trip. However, I think I will need a VISA to be able to travel to Tibet. May I know the price for this (including 4 star hotels) per person for the entire trip? What does it cover (meals, airfare)?

claire

Hi, Fahad! About the tour you’re interested in, is a private tour, which is flexible but the cost of it is so much high for a single traveler. And in this tour itinerary, I’m afraid that we can’t drive you from Zhangmu to Kathmandu on Day 13, because the highway of it has closed and it is mandatory to go through plane according to China and Nepal’s government. I’d love to book the flight (Lhasa-Kathmandu) for you, if you need.

Best wishes,

Claire
