If you’re looking for a good, reliable tour operator in Tibet, I highly recommend Great Tibet Tour.
Our guide was very friendly and provided lots of information about the monasteries, temple and palace we visited. Upon his recommendation, we went by ourselves to a nightclub one night and saw a wonderful Tibetan music and dance show. The morning we were to leave for the train station, he even knocked on our hotel door 40 minutes before he was to pick us up to make sure we were up.
They also arranged the Tibet Permit, the flight to Lhasa from Beijing, the train to Xian, and the flight back to Beijing. Everything came off without a hitch.
Whatever you’re looking to do in Tibet, I’m sure they have something to meet your needs. Their website is greattibettour.com.

Traveling in Tibet can be your greatest dream or worst nightmare...depending on your travel agent. The single most important thing when traveling through Tibet is to have a good travel agent... We had three different travel agents in three different countries, all claiming to be able to arrange our Tibet travels. Two of them got us into trouble and caused a number of unpleasant experiences and 1 of them saved us each time.
If you want to have a worry-free and enjoyable experience in Tibet, make sure your travel agent knows what he/she is doing. After much internet research, we were fortunate to find a Lhasa-based travel agent online named Great Tibet Tours. He's extremely knowledgeable, reliable and trustworthy. He saved us many times from other travel agents' mistakes...
Dear Plum,
I would like to thank you for helping us organise our wonderful trip to Lhasa. You were extremely helpful before our holiday, and the hotel you chose for us was excellent. Our guide was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and gave us so much information on all of the temples and monasteries we visited. We also really enjoyed having some time to ourselves to explore Lhasa on our own in the evenings and between sightseeing trips.
I would have no hesitation to recommend your travel company to anyone wanting to visit Lhasa. You really helped to make this an unforgettable holiday.
With best regards

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Tibet and all the wonderful things we saw and experienced. I would like to thank you for organising it all so well and I will recommend you to any of my friends who think of visiting your lovely country. While there were one or two things which did not quite work perfectly, there was nothing which spoilt the holiday and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
•Everything well organised as we had requested
• All arrangements, permits etc worked well
• Hotels were generally excellent, good value, friendly and helpful staff, clean and pleasant. Unfortunately, breakfasts were not always good for Westerners but that was our fault! We bought our own bread and bananas.
• The only two really “bad” stops were at Old Tingri and at Nam Tso, where the camp was very disappointing. We expected to stay in traditional tents, the whole area was littered with rubbish and we were pestered by beggars every time we left our room. In addition, I picked up a very nasty tummy bug from which I am still suffering.
• Restaurants were generally well-chosen and had good menus but we found that we didn’t need to eat cooked meals twice a day and preferred to buy our own food for a lunch-time picnic in the local supermarkets. It may be a fact that other Westerners may feel this way too and we feel they should be offered the choice of what they would like to do at lunch-time. We enjoyed taking a picnic and doing a “Kora” and eating our food somewhere quiet and peaceful. It also meant that we could eat lunch when we chose to and were not dependant on the availability of suitable restaurants.
• This may be something your company could do, but we found that there were festivals etc taking place which we did not know about or missed entirely. Maybe you could provide for your guides a list of special events which would be of interest to tourists. The itinerary could then be adjusted to include some of these.
