4.What documents we need for the tibet tour? Are the passport and China visa enough?

If you have China ID card, you do not need any special permit.

If you have Hong Kong ID card and the permit to mainland of China, you do not need.

When you travel to Tibet, if you did not hold china ID card, you need not only valid China visa but also Tibet permits, such as TTP permit, PSB permit, if you are going to the unopen area, you are required Tibet military permit.

  • If you enter Tibet from Kathmandu of Nepal, you have to apply for China visa again even you have already had the China visa in your country according to governmatal memo between Nepal and China.Our partner in Nepal can help you arrange your China visa.

5.What kind of currency used in Tibet?

All of the people in Tibet use RMB (CNY), some of the hotels and shops accept the USD, for convenience, you'd better change your money to the local currency (RMB). You can also just take the travelers' check to Tibet and then go to the Bank of China in Lhasa to change it. When you change thetravelers' check to RMB, you need not only the check but also your original passport and signature.

By the way, it is no problem if you tip the waiter, guide, driver in US dollar.

6. What kind of accommodation we can expect?

There are 3 kinds of accommodations we recommended:

*Best available hotel
*Comfortable class hotel
*Budget guesthouse

  • The best available hotels in Lhasa rank 4 stars and 5-star category.In other main cities such as Shigatse, Gyantse and Tsedang, the best ranks 3 stars only.
  • The comfortable class hotel means 3-star hotels and two-star hotel in other cities out of Lhasa.
  • The Budget guesthouse means no-star hotel, you may choose the standard rooms there or just the dormitories. But please keep it in your mind that there are not private bathroom within the dormitories.Click here to find the recommended hotels in Tibet.

7.Altitude sickness and how to avoid it?

Altitude sickness is also called Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), it is quite normal to get altitude problem, especially for the persons who come to Tibet for the first time. The typical symptoms of AMS are dyspnoea, lack of Oxygen, light-headed and even headache.

Of course your health condition is a very important factor. If you do not have problem with your lungs and heart, and you did not catch cough or cold before you enter Tibet, probably you will not get altitude sickness at all.

There is some advice from our travel experts for your reference:

  • Avoid to catch cold before you enter Tibet. Cold will easily turn into pulmonary edema, which is one of the main causes of death at high altitudes.
  • Have a good rest on the first evening.
  • Avoid to acute athletics or activities.
  • Drink more water or eat fruits, avoid alcohol and smoke.
